Where Would I Be?

If God had granted all the silly prayers I’ve made in my life, where should I be now?

C.S. Lewis
Letters to Malcolm” (1964)

Think about the above quote from C.S. Lewis and think back to your childhood and the frequent prayers you made.  I’m sure that many of them are not something you desire now.  What if you had the opportunity to see how different your life would be had those prayers been answered without having to stay in that reality?  How many of us would want the life we asked for in childhood?

–Praying to marry our first loves?
–Praying that our families stayed together?
–Praying that we won the lottery?

All these prayers would bring about monumental changes in our lives and while some of them might be to our benefit, our entire lives would be completely different from the lives we now lead.
We wouldn’t have the friends we have now.
–We wouldn’t live where we live now.

You are I’m sure aware of the quotes:
–That God gives us what we need when we need it.
–That everything that happens in our lives is always for the greatest good.
–That only God knows what is best for us.

And I’m sure you’re also aware that God answers all our prayers and sometimes that answer is no.  Just remember when we don’t get what we want from HIM, it doesn’t mean HE doesn’t love us, it doesn’t mean he didn’t hear our prayer,  it only means he loves us enough to withhold something we THINK we want because he KNOWS what we need.

Again I will refer to the C.S. Lewis quote above:
What if God DID INDEED grant all the prayers we asked for in our youth?  Would we be happy now?

I certainly wouldn’t and I’ll be willing to bet most of my readers wouldn’t either.  Another quote that is reminiscent is:
Be careful what you wish/pray for, because you may just get it.  As in The Monkey’s Paw.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

Chris

Once you realize that life is eternal,
That our souls our eternal,
That we return to light and physical over and over;

We then lose all our distress
We then lose all our fear of dying.  For there truly is no end.
