Fishing with my Grandfather

I’ve invoked Jonathan Carroll’s name at Wisdom and Life often.  He is one spectacular writer.  In The Ghost in Love, there is a scene where Ben Gould, the protagonist of the story visits himself at earlier times in his life.  The scene that is most memorable is one where Ben witnesses himself as a young boy on a swingset.  So what does this have to do with fishing with my grandfather?

I’ve also written at Wisdom and Life about going back in time.  With this column today, I’m asking if you could travel back to a previous experience in your life and interact with the experience, where would you want to go and why? Now mind you, you can’t attempt to change anything, because as you know from reading the previous link about going back in time, any change you make, big or small will send your life in a completely different trajectory.

With that being said, as a bridge to last week’s column:
Don’t Take Time For Granted

where would you like to go?

Me?
I’d choose fishing with my grandfather at Blissville Pond in Lisbon, Connecticut.  It’s one memory I love, and sitting with a fishing pole in my hand at Blissville Pond is where I go when I meditate.  It’s my safe place.  As my long time readers understand, my maternal grandparents have been important in making me who I am.  As an example:
My grandfather was ostensibly the only routine male in my life who I identified with as a young boy.
My grandfather bought me my first camera.
My grandfather taught me to fish as can be seen from this column.

I spent so much time fishing at Blissville Pond growing up, sometimes with my grandfather, sometimes on my own.  As I’ve written at Wisdom and Life many times over, I felt so fortunate to grow up on Graham Terrace in Lisbon, Connecticut.
My best friend, Joe lived just down the street.

I could walk to Blissville Pond.
I wouldn’t trade growing up there for a thing.

It’s why Blissville Pond holds such magic for me and it’s why that’s the one experience I’d like to eavesdrop on now as an adult.  I’d love to interact with myself as a young boy with my grandfather.

Where would you like to go?

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

Signs, The Divine, and Spiritual Evolution

Have you ever thought that you wanted something so badly and you looked for signs that pointed in the direction of “the rightness,” of the choice but every time you turned around there were opposite signs pointing you in a different direction?

Image from:
Wikipedia
Caodaist_eye

Did you see these signs or did you choose to ignore them?  What do you suppose would happen if you chose to ignore them?  On a soul level we ALL know what feels right.  We ALL know when something is NOT supposed to happen and when we ignore the RIGHTNESS of something, the Divine will continue pushing you toward the right path.

Maybe it is a conversation you have with someone.

Maybe you overhear someone else and ONE word or a series of words get magnified and you ONLY hear THOSE words.  These are the things we MUST pay attention to.  It is the Divine directing us but unless we are aware, unless we are awake, unless our “spiritual blinders” are off we won’t understand, we won’t see, we won’t hear where Spirit is guiding us.

It’s important for our spiritual evolution to move forward.  And the only way we can develop beyond our current capacity is to listen our intuition, listen to our gut.  And when a choice is to be made, follow your intuition.  Your intuition is the direct pipeline to the divine.  If you receive a message in the form of an overheard conversation and the message appears to be telling you NOT to do something, then for heaven’s sake, heed the message.  For if you don’t and you stumble forward choosing to ignore THAT message then something stronger will come down the pike and knock you on your ass.

The first message you receive from the Divine can sometimes be VERY subtle, which is why it take practice to hear that message.  If you are indeed awake and you understand the messages that are filtering through the first time and you STILL choose to ignore them, then the NEXT time you hear from Spirit, the next message won’t be so subtle  I SINCERELY believe we get that next communication that is more brazen to wake us up, to shake the lethargy from our inner being.

There is no bad.
There is no negative.

Everything that happens in our lives, from blessings to challenges are simply the Divine’s attempt to move us forward, to help us grow, to help us evolve.  To move forward, however we have to start paying attention to the communications we receive.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

A Force in the Universe

There’s a force in the universe that’s 100 percent trustworthy.  It creates and manifests from love, cooperation, beauty, and expansiveness, and it’s to this flawless work of spirit that you can return in order to know inspiration.

Wayne Dyer
Your Ultimate Calling

In my power group, I’ve been told that I have the “God gene.”  That’s not the EXACT phrase that’s used.  What they mean is that I have faith that I’m taken care of, that no matter what happens, I’ll be safe. I’ve mentioned to them that I don’t worry….

….about anything.  It’s why I connect with the above quote by Wayne Dyer.

I understand that I’m taken care of.  No matter what.  I’ve always been blessed to feel that.  I wish everyone could feel the power of faith that I do.  But we all have our own path to walk.  That force mentioned above?

It can be seen as the Universe, a Higher Power, God.

We all need something to cling to when we are circling the drain.  For me, I’ve always relied on God.  I see him everywhere.  It’s why I think I’ve felt protected, because, for myself, God is everywhere.  I feel like we have a symbiotic relationship.  I believe God is everywhere, so God gives me the faith I need to march through this my latest incarnation.

I believe faith and God are all around us we simply have to know where to look.  Sometimes you can’t see what you’re looking for because you have your blinders on.  Remove those spiritual blinders, as I like to say and you’ll feel that force that Wayne Dyer writes about above.

It’s easy for me to have this faith that everything will be alright, because it’s a gift I’ve had my entire life.  If you want some  as I wrote in 2012, the best way is to start small.

There’s a force in the universe that is looking out for all of us.  Can you find it?  If not:
Start small.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

Myers and Briggs Test

Myers Briggs is a personality testing program that places people into sixteen personality categories. What type you fall into depends on the answers you give on the test. If you answer honestly, you’ll see which type you fall into.  You can take one examnple of the test here:
16 Personalities

Image from:
Wikimedia:

I’ve taken the test at various points in my life and have always fallen into two types. Either:

INFJ
INFP

As I look back now and after taking the test again within the last month, I now clearly see that I definitely fall into the INFP type.

I can relate to so many of both types but many morein the INFP are where I stand.  in the INFP characteristic fit me much better:

–INFPs tend to be introverted, quiet and reserved.

Being in social situations tends to drain their energy and they prefer interacting with a select group of close friends. While they like to be alone, this should not necessarily be confused with shyness. Instead, it simply means that INFPs gain energy from spending time alone. On the other hand, they have to expend energy in social situations.

–INFPs place an emphasis on personal feelings and their decisions are more influenced by these concerns rather than by objective information.
They also dislike conflict and try to avoid it. When conflicts or arguments do arise, they usually focus more on how the conflict makes them feel rather than the actual details of the argument. During arguments, they might seem overly emotional or even irrational. However, they can also be good mediators by helping the people involved in a conflict identify and express their feelings.

–INFPs tend to be very creative, artistic and spiritual. They are often skilled with language, but may prefer to express their thoughts and feelings through writing.
INFPs typically do well in careers where they can express their creativity and vision. While they work well with others, they generally prefer to work alone. Some possible careers that might be a good match for an INFP include:
Artist
Counselor
Graphic Designer
Librarian
Psychologist
Physical Therapist
Social Worker
Writer

The above info is from:
Verywell.com

I work in three of the above careers. And EVERYTHING above the careers I can certainly relate too.

There is so much that I relate to with this personality type. The biggest is how I deal with confrontation. The following explanation especially rings true:
They also dislike conflict and try to avoid it. When conflicts or arguments do arise, they usually focus more on how the conflict makes them feel rather than the actual details of the argument. During arguments, they might seem overly emotional or even irrational.

I see this happen constantly in my life. Which is why I at all costs do my best to avoid any conflict.
I don’t like how I react.
I don’t have enough self confidence to stand up for myself.
I feel like I’m back to being a child with no experience about how to deal with the challenge that has arisen.

Seeing this is a trait that the INFP person exhibits makes me feel a BIT better. Knowing you are not alone and others experience the same traits always creates a safety zone around us.

A Myers Briggs personality test is something everyone should take, for their own experience but also to understand where they fit in the world. And answer the questions honestly, not the way you think others see you and not the way you WANT others to see you.  But how you REALLY feel. You may be surprised at the results you get.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

Your Job

Your job is to help others get to where you are.   Why do you suppose you know the terrain so well?  Are you acting as The Source for the advancement of others today? Who have you lifted up, and how, in the past 24 hours? And in the next? What is your plan for the next?

Neale Donald Walsch Daily Inspiration
June 5, 2017

If you don’t know Neale Donald Walsch (NDS), he came to popularity through his books:
Conversations With God.

Image from:

NDS has always been one of my favorite spiritual people I follow. I connected with the June fifth, daily email I received from him because I consider one of my jobs is to help people see there IS another way to see life.  That’s really why Wisdom and Life exists.

Everyone has incarnated with a gifts to use.  Our mission while in the physical is to find the gifts we were given and use them to help others.  I’ve written an entire category at Wisdom and Life called Parental Pressure that has my columns about the gifts we receive.  Check it out when you feel like it.

I write often that if you remove your spiritual blinders, you’ll be able to see life is all about spirituality and less about physicality.  This blog is in existence to show that.  I’ve always had a strong faith and for those who are new to reading Wisdom and Life, you can certainly ready my category on faith.

My life has been filled with blessings and I’ve felt as the above quote states that I want:
to help others get to where you are.

How do you use your own gifts to help others?  There are countless ways to help.
–You can be a shoulder to lean on.
–You can be an ear to listen with.

Some of us use the gifts we were given to directly help others.  Writing is one way to help others.  Neale Donald Walsch knows that.  Through his Conversations With God series, he has certainly helped numerous people.  I hope Wisdom and Life is doing that as well, helping people understand that there is a spiritual underpinning to the world.  I consider it my job to help others see through this physical plane into the etheric one.

What are your gifts and how do you use them?

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

Why Did You Do This For Me?

Why did you do all this for me?’ he asked. ‘I don’t deserve it. I’ve never done anything for you.’ ‘You have been my friend,’ replied Charlotte. ‘That in itself is a tremendous thing.

Charlotte’s Web is one of my favorite children’s books of all time.  As with many of my favorite books, there are countless quotes throughout the book that resonate deeply with me.

Our friends play an important role in our lives.  There is no self made man.  We are all where we are because someone else cared enough to give us a hand when we needed it.  Whether it was friends or family makes no difference.  No man is an island.

We need our friends.
We need others to help us move along the path of life.

Who has helped you?
Have you thanked them?

An arrow can only be shot

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it’s going to launch you into something great. So just focus, and keep aiming.

Is your life full of challenges at the moment?  Do things seem to be piling up with no end in sight?

Image from:

I understand that it’s challenging to hear someone tell you if you’re having a difficult time to find the gift, that strength comes in the face of adversity, that as the quote above states:
An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward.

It is true, however.  If you feel as if you’re being dragged down, being held back, it’s a sign that you’re about to leap forward.  Don’t become discouraged.  Don’t let a challenging circumstance or event bring you to your knees for too long.  I’ve seen this happen to myself.

In the early 1990s I had just finished up a five year job with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.  I’d been out of work for a few months and I began to feel restless.  I started to sink a bit.  Backward a bit.  It was around this time that I decided to go back to school. And once that plan was put to fruition, I was hired part time at the Scranton Library in Madison, Connecticut.

So what I’m saying is, that even though life may be bringing you down at the moment, may be pulling you back, get ready to leap forward.  The ONE THING I can say however, is don’t expect something to happen if you don’t lay the groundwork.  You can’t move forward without a path to move forward on.  One foot in front of the other and one leap forward.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

A Divine Chip

In a recent Power Group meeting, we ended up discussing parents and their children as high school was coming to a close.  One of the things we discussed was those high school students who SAID they didn’t know what they wanted to do.  I countered that MOST students do know what they want but are afraid to say.

Those who knew and DID express their opinions I believe sometimes had a “divine chip” implanted in them as they incarnated.  This chip overrode any dissenting opinion either from family or school.  These people bucked the system do do what they were put here to do.

My best friend growing up in Lisbon, Connecticut is one such person.  I recall being in third grade with him at Lisbon Central School and hearing him repeatedly say he would be a doctor.

Joe is now a foot doctor in Norwich, Connecticut.  I learned a valuable lesson from Joe:
Never let someone tell you what’s best for you, because only YOU know what’s best for you.

Some of us can’t afford to pursue of career choice immediately.  That simply means we must find another way to supplement or abundance while we continue to work on our specific goals.  For some of us, we can simply pivot a bit.  I’ll use myself and another friend as an example:

For me, my goal has always been the written word.

Writing as can be seen from the previous link, has always been my first love.  It takes a long time to build a career in writing.  I acknowledge that.  I didn’t let that deter me however and I also didn’t travel a completely different path.  I’m still involved with the written word, having pivoted to a library, where I am surrounded by books.  Books have always been a major influence on me.  I didn’t want to be separated from them.  I thank my own “divine chip” for keeping me on the right path.  No one influenced me to make a decision that they THOUGHT was right for me.  That “divine chip” implanted in myself is still working.  And I thank God for placing it there.

My friend, Jason Marchi who I’ve mentioned here at Wisdom and Life as can be seen from the previous link is someone else who I believe has that aforementioned “divine chip.”  Like me, he has been a writer as long as I’ve known him.  In fact it is how we met.  And like me, he pivoted just a bit in his day job, having worked for a publishing company in his hometown.  We both stayed in the “writing field” so as to keep our enthusiasm up.  We didn’t let other people define the roles we wanted and now we are reaping the rewards.

I believe we all have that divine chip.  However for some of us it is more defined and we are not afraid to express what we want.  We don’t want to wake up one morning saying:
Shoulda.  Woulda.  Coulda.

Thanks to Patricia for the inspirational term:
Divine Chip

Power Group

As a follow up to Centering Prayer Group, I think it is important to surround yourself with as many like minded people as possible.  Almost ten years ago now (Wow!  Hard to believe after writing that, that it has been that long.) three of my friends and I started meeting weekly to discuss all the positive that was happening in our lives.  The group sort of ran out of gas about two years later.  We all still stayed in touch, just not in a formal meeting.

Image from:
Pixabay

In January, the same people reconstituted and we are once again meeting.  Like nothing has changed we fell back into our comfort zone and it’s been amazing.  The original concept behind developing our group was to support our positive movements and by discussing them, help more positivity bloom.

As it says in one of the Law of Attraction tenets:
Surround yourself with the positive and think positive and more of that will come to you.

That’s how our group works even now.  We look for positive things that our happening in our lives and we discuss them.  In the week between our meetings we carry on a daily email where we list three positive things that have happened or are happening in our lives that day.  It may sound silly.  However, as I said earlier, the more positive we find to be grateful for the more that will arrive.

It’s important to develop this routine if you want to live a grateful life:
–Surround yourself with as many like minded people as possible.  (Find groups that practice your belief system.)
–Find the positive in any challenges you encounter.  (In other words turn the negative into a positive.  You can ALWAYS find some small gift in a challenge.  It just takes practice.)
–When something positive happens be grateful.

One of the things I’ve started to do when I wake in the morning, before my feet even touch the floor is say out loud:
Something amazing will happen today.

This is a result of our group.

Find like minded people and you’ll find your outlook changing for the better.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

Talismans

Everyone has their own talisman; something they carry with them that offers their own form of protection.  Whatever it maybe, no one can deny having one.   Mine is a Saint Christopher Medal. I’ve had one most of my life.

The first medal I owned I placed in my maternal grandfather’s casket after he transitioned to provide him safe travel to the next plane.  Saint Christopher is the patron saint of travelers.  He provides safety for all who travel anywhere.  I wanted to provide my grandfather’s soul safe passage and I understood that I could replace my medal.  However this was the only opportunity I had to give my talisman to my grandfather.

I like to think that I’m not superstitious, however I can tell you, those first few weeks when I didn’t have Saint Christopher around my neck I was quite uncomfortable.

I was more than happy to give mine up because as I said above I understood that my grandfather needed the protection more than I did.  It was still odd not to feel the medal against my chest when I went to touch it.

I’ve gone through two other Saint Christopher’s.  One I left in New York and was never able to recover and one slipped off my chain and I didn’t realize it was missing until I went to bed that night. Now you’re probably thinking:
If he went through the day without any knowledge that the medal was gone, then surely the fact that he THINKS he needs it for protection is in his head.

You’d be right to think that.  In fact, I completely agree with you.  The fact is, the knowledge that I need this talisman, the knowledge that ANYONE needs a talisman is entirely in our heads.  Just because we believe we need something to keep us safe however, creates the reality that we need something to keep us safe.  You our of course aware of my worldview that states:
Our thoughts create our reality.
It is this very reason why believing something makes it real in our world.

Last week, while shaving, I heard a clink and looked down to see my current ST. Christopher Medal lying in the sink. The medal had fallen off my chain.  I once again felt vulnerable. I know.  That sounds crazy, right?  I can’t help it.  ST. Christopher has protected me for almost my entire life.  Without that medal hanging around my neck, I did not feel safe.  Once out of the bathroom I went to my bedroom and in my night table I found a second medal, I attached that to the chain as best I could and waited a week before I could get tighter fit on the medal.  Whether you believe in talismans or not is beside the point.  The fact is, I do and ST Christopher has been mine in name as well as in reality.

Do you have a talisman?
No!  Scratch that question.  Seeing as it has already been established that everyone has a talisman, let me rephrase the question:
What IS your talisman?

Let me know in the comments below.
