Celebrities and Past Lives

Nietzsche says that we will live the same life, over and over again. God – I’ll have to sit through the Ice Capades again.

Attributed to Woody Allen

Whether we live the SAME life over and over is up for debate.  However, I AM convinced that we all come back.  Anyone who has been following Wisdom and Life from its inception should realize that is one of my steadfast beliefs.  I heard the above quote few weeks ago while working at the Scranton Library on a Thursday night and I promised I would use it in an upcoming column.  When I first heard the Ice Capades quote, I laughed so hard I lost my breath.

I can just see Woody Allen saying such a thing in his droll voice.  Woody Allen and Nietzsche aren’t the only celebrities who have mentioned Past Lives as part of their worldview.  I recently discovered that General Patton believed he’d been here before as well.  That shocked me beyond belief.  While working at the library one day a few weeks ago the movie Patton starring George C, Scott returned and I read the back flap.  The passage that caught my eye was:
Patton believed he was a warrior in past lives.

When I arrived home that evening, I researched the subject and sure enough, it proved to be true.  There are many others who believe we reincarnate.

I read a book over twenty years ago called: Walking after Midnight where Hollywood actors discussed their belief in past lives.  I seem to recall Martin Sheen believing in the concept.  Having “Hollywooders” believing and being vocal about it doesn’t really surprise me.  However, seeing someone like General Patton come out and discuss his position IS surprising.  I wouldn’t expect someone of his stature being daring enough to admit this belief; maybe because even though I have no problem discussing it, the concept of reincarnation, especially when Patton was living could have been seen as quite esoteric, not ft to be discussed openly.  I give General Patton credit for talking about this regardless of WHEN he discussed it.  I think the more of us that openly talk about esoteric topics such as reincarnation the less afraid others will be to discuss them as well.

Do you have any beliefs that you’ve been afraid to discuss?

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

Thoughts Become Your Reality

Remember that your thoughts are the primary cause of everything. So when you think a sustained thought it is immediately sent out into the Universe. That thought magnetically attaches itself to the like frequency, and then within seconds sends the reading of that frequency back to you through your feelings. Put another way, your feelings are communicated back to you from the Universe, telling you what frequency you are currently on. Your feelings are your frequency feedback mechanism!”

Jack Canfield

JackCanfield

Jack Canfield grew popular from his Chicken Soup books.  He played a role in the Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret.  In one part of the movie, Canfield recalls

I said okay, I want to make $100,000 in the next calendar year.  Now at that time I had a job as a school teacher, and I was making $8,000 a year, so that would be twelve times my income in one year.  I didn’t see how I could do that; they don’t pay teachers extra if they do a good job. But he said set the goal anyway and let’s see what happens. So the technique I was using was to visualize every day having $100,000.  I made a $100,000 bill by taking a hundred dollar bill and using a projection screen, projecting it up onto a flip chart, so it was larger, then I traced it and added three zeros to it so it looked like $100,000.  It was large, about three feet by two feet, and I put it up on the ceiling above my bed.  So every morning I’d wake up, I’d see the hundred thousand dollar bill, and I’d say my affirmation: “God is my unlimited supply.  May large sums of money come to me quickly and easily under the grace of God, for the highest good of all concerned. I am easily earning, saving, and investing a $100,000 a year.”

This story is also in Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret

In the end, Jack didn’t make the $100,000.  He fell JUST short.  But that wasn’t the idea.  The idea is to set a goal, pursue it with all your heart and keep pushing toward it.  Keep your thoughts centered on that goal, because as those of us who follow Law of Attraction know:
Watch your thoughts.  They become your reality.

–Keep your thoughts positive and you’ll find more positivity flowing in your direction.
–Set a goal and (an outrageous goal if you desire) as Jack Canfield says:
–Set a goal so outrageous that when it comes to fruition, you’ll understand that it was your faith in seeing it accomplished and nothing else.

Which Books Are You?

Anyone who knows me in the LEAST, understands that reading is part of who I am.  It’s why the last two jobs I’ve had have been book centric.  RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison, Connecticut and The Scranton Library in Madison, Connecticut.   The funny thing is when I grew up, you couldn’t pay me to read.  Now you’d have to pay me NOT to read.

Alright.  With that established, let’s play a little reading game:
Before we begin let me just start out by saying that I’ve discussed these two books countless times before at Wisdom and Life.  However, as with all topics here it is always nice to circle back around.  Sometimes for new readers who haven’t been with me since this blog’s inception and sometimes it’s also good to get a repeat once in awhile.

If you had to choose two books that best described who you are. which two books would they be?  Which two books would you NOT want to be without?  Which two books have become so much a part of you are, that to take them away from you would be as if someone reached in and pulled out your very soul?  I’ll start:
My two books that I simply can’t be without are:
1.  What Dreams May Come: A Novel
WhatDreamsMayCome

Click on the link above to purchase the book and I will get a commission.

I read this book for the first time in the early 1990s and it entirely changed my whole perspective on life and death.  Few books have had such a life altering experience for me as this book did.  What Dreams May Come tells the story of Chris Nielsen who dies in a fiery car accident leaving his wife and children behind.  What comes next is the story of Chris doing everything is his limited power to comfort Annie, his wife, doing everything he can to show her that life moves even when one has transitioned.  What Dreams May Come was my introduction to the theory of Past Lives and reincarnation.  It’s why the book has become so important in my library.  And it is why I firmly believe as I stated in a Facebook post a couple weeks ago that it is one book that all of humanity should read.  It’s one book that needs to be required reading for every living human.  It could change everyone’s life if they let the ideas in the book permeate.

  1.  Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Ever Lived
    Love Wins

You’ll be helping me by clicking on the link above to purchase this from Amazon.

This book is important to me as well because it introduced me to the fact that I am most likely a Universalist.  Whether or not Rob Bell is a Universalist is up for debate.  However, his book points to many claims that Universalists make.

Another reason I identify so strongly with this book is Bell’s claim that a loving God would not choose a select few people to save.  If God is all loving wouldn’t that entity want to save all of humanity?  That’s my reasoning too.  And it’s why this book is in my top two spiritual books to have and why I feel as I do with What Dreams May Come that all of humanity can benefit from reading it.

Wayne Dyer

Wayne Dyer transitioned on August 29.  He was 75.  After discovering Law of Attraction through Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret, I quickly realized there was much more to this new worldview I became involved in, that it wasn’t all about how to acquire THINGS.  Law of Attraction is so much more.  Law of Attraction is a way of life, one I practice every day and Wayne Dyer became one of the first people I found after being introduced to The Secret.

This was well before Dyer became established in the Law of Attraction movement, but even at the time of writing that book you could clearly see the seeds were being sown for what he would later develop into.  He became my go to guy.  After discovering Wayne Dyer I went through the bulk of his back catalog, reading most of his books and watching many of his PBS specials and movies.

The Shift

being the movie that made a lasting impression me; because it was shortly after being introduced to Wayne Dyer.  Shortly after The Shift, I read:
Excuses Begone and that changed my outlook on life.  I wrote about how much that book altered my worldview here:
Be Happy!  Be Well

I think one of the reasons Wayne Dyer left such an impression on me is because he was the first individual I discovered after finding Law of Attraction.  He will be greatly missed. But he is needed elsewhere now.

Wayne Dyer has left us with a lasting treasure trove of material.  Simply click on his name linked at the beginning of this sentence to see his product at Amazon.  If anything catches your eye, you can purchase DIRECTLY from Wisdom and Life.

And he will be back.

All Is Truly Well

If you know that all is well, you know all you need to know. And if you know life is supposed to be fun, you know more than almost anybody else knows. And if you know that the way you feel is your indicator of how connected you are to Source, then you know that which only a handful of Deliberate Creators, respective to the total population, really know. The beasts all know it. Your animals know that all is well. Your animals live in the moment. They understand the power of their now. They expect the Universe to yield to them. They don’t worry or fret or conjure or make laws or rules or try to regulate. They are Pure Positive Energy. Your beasts vibrate more on the Energy scale of contentment than of passion. Their desire was set forth from Nonphysical, and continues to be set forth by those, like you, who want Energy balance, who want sustenance. The difference between the beast and the human is that the beast is more general in its intent. The human is usually less blended, usually less allowing of the Energy to flow, but is more specific. And that is why the human is seen to be the Creator while the beast is more the balancer of Energy.

PluggedIn

What is source?
What does it mean to be connected?

If you look at source as the universal power for good, as the power of positive energy then you can clearly see that being connected means being plugged into that energy source.  That source, for me is simply another way of defining the Divine.  It’s just another way of defining God; which is why I’ve always maintained that Law of Attraction (LoA) has served to deepen my faith.  Law of Attraction is so much more than asking for THINGS.  It is so much more than bringing THINGS into your life.

Law of Attraction is a means to an end.
Law of Attraction is a philosophy.
Law of Attraction is a way to live your life.

Re-read the above statement from Abraham Hicks and you’ll begin to understand the philosophy behind LoA.  LoA tells us that we can change our thoughts and when we change our thoughts, our entire well-being changes, our well-being will improve.  Simply look at the first line:
If you know that all is well, you know all you need to know.

Those of us who are truly steeped in this paradigm understand that all IS well and all will ALWAYS be well.  Even when challenges arise, after they dissipate, we can always find a blessing.  Those of us who know where to look will always find that opened window after a door closes.  That window ALWAYS opens.  Sometimes we have look harder for it.  When you are connected to source, this all becomes rote.

Knowing that all is well becomes routine.
Knowing that you will be provided for becomes routine.  It’s just like I said at my column at Wisdom and Life called:
Two Symptoms of Enlightenment:
When we become spiritually enlightened, we lose all our fears, we lose our worry.

Where does fear and worry originate from?  Why do we worry?

We worry and fear when we look to the future, correct?
We worry and fear when we don’t know what’s around the next corner.

So how do we stop that worry?  How do we halt it in its tracks?
Anyone?

Let’s go back a couple of lines here and look at what causes worry:
when we look to the future.

So the solution is as Eckhart Tolle says in his quintessential book:
The Power of Now:
Stay in the present moment.

That’s how to stay connected to source.
That’s how to feel content.
That’s how to know that all is truly well.

How many of us can practice this on a regular basis?

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

Grist For The Mill

One of the most common questions writers get is:
Where do you get your ideas?
What inspires you to write?

Image from:
Wikipedia
GristMill

A friend of mine asked me this VERY question a few weeks ago.  For myself, ANYTHING can inspire me:
–A conversation overheard as in: Lunchtime Conversations
–Something I read as in my Books category
–Even a conversation with a friend as can be seen from this VERY column.

Usually if I use a conversation I’ve overheard or one I have with a friend I will mask the person, either I won’t mention them by name or I will create a false name.  The ONLY time I have used someone’s real name is when I refer to them at Wisdom and Life as in:
Google+ Mentions and Several columns in Friendships.

In one case a street name in Madison Connecticut inspired me to write a short story that is in my eBook:
Random Acts: Stories of Redemption

There is no clear answer to what inspires an artist to create, whether that artist is a painter, a writer, a photographer.  Anything and everything can be grist for the mill.  I think it’s one of the reasons some artists find the question challenging.  It’s almost like asking them why do you breathe?  Being an artist is who we are and we can no more turn off the flow of inspiration then we can stop our breath.  Just like being a writer, myself, I simply cannot turn off the editor in my head when reading.  A writer is who I am, and my ears and eyes are always scanning my environment whether I want to or not.  I may not be consciously aware of my scanning, but when it comes time to put my fingers to the keys on my computer, my mind drifts back to my day.  And with Wisdom and Life I’ve said it before and I will repeat it now:
What I write at this blog is I’m CONVINCED divinely inspired.  I may be tapping the keys, but the words are emanating from the somewhere else.  Perhaps The Akashic Record.  Perhaps from the Divine.

Memory Doesn’t Care

A long time reader of Wisdom and Life stopped into the library a few weeks ago to pick up a couple of books she had on hold.  Lisa R. looked at one of the books and said she THINKS she read it previously.  We then began a discussion about memory and how it works.  Lisa brought up Einstein and said there is a story that he never remembered his phone number because he didn’t care to.  I mentioned to her that if someone asked me about a book I read twenty plus years ago, I can tell you what it was about and why it resonated with me.

Image from:
Wikipedia
Memory

Because you care, she said.  It’s why unless someone is motivated by what they are learning, unless they care about the subject matter, it won’t be retained, she said.

What I took away from that conversation for parents and children as well is what I’ve said from day one in my Parental Pressure category at Wisdom and Life:
Let your children go.
Let them decide the course of their lives.

If you push them to do something they are not ready to do they will surely fail because their heart isn’t in it.  The memory won’t care to retain any knowledge.  If someone isn’t motivated, they surely won’t learn.

I never really considered that.  I never thought about memory working if you care about what you’re doing.  Reading has always been a HUGE part of my life.  It stands to reason that I’d recall books I read years ago.  Lisa struck a chord with me.  It’s not the first time she has inspired me to write a column as can be seen from the search query below:
Lisa R/Wisdom and Life  The first seven columns:
Routines to Life is a Process are inspired by Lisa.

I just find it fascinating that it sometimes takes someone else to point out something that we don’t or can’t see in our own lives.  You know, like that saying:
You can’t see the forest for the trees.

It makes perfect sense now that I consider it, that memory only works for things we WANT to recall.

Do you have examples of this in your own life?  Would love to hear from you if you do. Leave your comments below.

Higher Vibrational People

Seek out higher vibrational people, and avoid those who reflect more ego-oriented behavior patterns

Your Ultimate Calling
Wayne Dyer

Knowing that according to Law of Attraction our thoughts create our reality, it then stands to reason that those we choose to surround ourselves with also influence our thoughts, thus influencing our reality.  If we are feeling low, if we are in a negative place, perhaps we need to look the people in our circle.  Are we letting the right people in?  If not, It may be time to weed our gardens.

Weed our gardens?

Image from:
Wikipedia
Weeding

Yes.  Are there weeds in our friendship gardens?  Are there people who choke our emotions, who keep us down?  Perhaps some of those weeds hide the fact they are indeed weeds by growing flowers, doing their best to stay in our lives.  What we must do is really get down in the dirt, examine each and every person in our garden.
Do they charm us?
Do they lift us up?
Do they bring laughter and joy?

Or:
Do they only appear to do so by hiding the fact that they are weeds?

We need to be strong enough to know we can eliminate the weeds and still move forward without the pretty weeds, the weeds that appear to be positive, but really still bring us down.

We are better than these people.  If it comes down to the fact that you have more weeds than flowers, it is better to eliminate the weeds.  As challenging as it may be to be without anyone in your life, does it really make sense to keep people around just because you’d be lonely without them?

Are these negative people truly your friends?
Do they want what is best for you or what is best for them?
Are they only happy, do they only reach out when you lift them up?

Only you can make the decision whether to keep or remove someone.  Eventually your emotional state will make the choice for you.  I’ve learned this lesson and I now have the BEST circle of friends I’ve EVER had.

As Wayne Dyer says:
Seek out higher vibrational people, and avoid those who reflect more ego-oriented behavior patterns.

It’s more important to have positive people in your life especially if you are just starting down this new path.  You don’t need someone constantly dragging you backward.  It’s why in EVERY recovery program available, those who have been there tell you to drop your old friends because most likely many of them are still not in recovery.  They will only drag you back.  If you are truly interested in growth then it is time to weed your garden.  You’ll find the right people once you remove the negative people.

Be strong enough to move forward.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

A Great Chasm

As you go the way of life you will see a great chasm
Jump.
It’s not as wide as you think.

Native American Proverb

I read Into the Abyss this past summer and was blown away.  If you’d like to know what the book is about, feel free to open the preceding link.  It will bring you to Scranton Page Turner, one of my other blogs I write. Creating abundance doing what I love has been an amazing experience.  I get to read for a living.  Who else can say that?  Many people obviously.  However, I’ve learned since being in this worldview I’ve been experiencing for sometime now, that as Law of Attraction suggests, our thoughts do indeed create reality.  Because I CHOOSE to see my career in a certain light, because I CHOOSE to see I get to read for a living that’s what becomes my reality.

Image from:

Chasm

I find inspiration for Wisdom and Life everywhere as you can clearly see from this above quote.  As with photography, when I’m constantly seeing with my photographer’s eye, everything quote, every phrase I come across becomes fodder, becomes as my friend, Jason Marchi likes to say becomes grist for the mill.

The above passage can be used in almost every aspect of life.
Don’t be afraid.

Life is full of challenges, full of chasms.  You can’t move forward if you always choose the easy path.  You won’t live life fully unless you take some risk, unless you jump occasionally.  You’ll stagnate if you constantly run from that chasm.  There will be no success.  Life without risk is not the life I want.  No one should want that life!

It’s not as wide as you think.
The chasm is NEVER as wide, the challenge you THINK you have is NEVER as challenging as you make it out to be.  After you’ve faced it down, after you’ve jumped, once on the other side, tell me this isn’t true.  Every time you face a challenge and jump, the less likely you’ll shrink from the next one that appears.  As with muscle memory, the more you do something, the stronger you become.

Take that risk!
Jump.
You may surprise yourself and find that you can indeed fly.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

An Impassible Barrier

There’s really no way I can get through to her? I asked.
Perhaps something will develop in time he said. At the moment, her disbelief is an impassable barrier.

What Dreams May Come: A Novel
Richard Matheson

WhatDreamsMayCome

I read What Dreams May Come the first time in the mid 1990s after meeting Richard Matheson at the World Horror Convention in Stamford, Connecticut in 1993.  My friend, Jason Marchi and I went to the convention together as we were both writing dark fantasy at the time.  This book changed my entire perspective on life and death.  It was my introduction to the belief in reincarnation and past lives.  Upon finishing the book I realized just how much sense it made that we always return.

What Dreams… is a very emotional book and I’m not ashamed to admit that with both readings I shed some tears.  I’ve also watched the movie several times and while the book is a different flavor, the movie also holds a very special place in my heart. Now after reading the book again, I clearly see many similarities in my worldview and this book.  In several cases, Richard Matheson states that what we believe in life is what we will see in transition.  That’s a question I presented in a column here at Wisdom and Life:
What Do You Believe

The quote above is a clear example of this.  I suppose what I’m suggesting is:
–If someone you’re close to has transitioned, please believe they are still close by, that they still exist.
–If someone tells you something about the transitioned soul that ONLY you and they would know, don’t dismiss the information.

As in the book and the movie, you don’t want the transitioned soul attempting to contact you and let you know they are safe, only to met by that impassable barrier.  If my readers know someone who does not have a belief in the soul transcending our physical self, then it is important to do your best to show them that we do exist beyond transition. That death REALLY is simply a transitory state.

I implore anyone who hasn’t read What Dreams May Come, find the book.  Read it.  Then tell me your perspective hasn’t changed.  Look for the movie as well.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.
