What are your resolutions for the new year?
It’s one of my least favorite things about New Years. Everyone wants to know what changes you plan on making. New Year’s resolutions only set us up for failure. Harsh, I know.
But you tell me how many of us actually follow through on ANY of the resolutions we’ve sworn to keep?
Yet we continue to create the façade. We continue making these pronouncements that THIS year will be different. It’s why I’ve decided to get off that ride. I know longer make resolutions. I want to continue being happy throughout the year and continue doing what I love. By making resolutions I do not keep, I continue that pretense and set myself up for disappointment. Why not change your habit and do something different?
Why not stop making resolutions you won’t keep? Be happy with who you are today.
One of the stories I love recalling is when a teacher asked their student what they wanted to be when they grew up and the student said:
No. The teacher said. You don’t understand. What do you want to DO? The student smiled back and said:
You DON’T understand. I want to be happy!
The student was right. It’s the teacher who received a lesson on that day. Being happy is much more important than our career, which is what the teacher aimed at asking. Why not be happy with both?
Isn’t that what we all want?
To be happy?
We are all a work in progress and there is no perfection. We should all be aiming for happiness and abundance. Abundance of all types. Not just monetary wealth, but joyful wealth, friendship wealth, spiritual wealth. The Divine doesn’t EVEN EXPECT perfection, only that we strive for it.
So no more New Year’s Resolutions for me. I think there are simply too many pitfalls waiting to happen. I’d rather, as I said previously, continue to be the happiest person I can.
Doesn’t that seem like a much better use of our time?
Happy New Year’s to all those who celebrate it.
Next week’s column will be something different.
A remembrance of a local establishment that has
recently shuttered its doors.
Be Happy! Be Well! Be Positive!
Blessings to you.
Once you realize that life is eternal,
That our souls our eternal,
That we return to light and physical over and over;
We then lose all our distress
We then lose all our fear of dying. For there truly is no end.
